Pissed Newbie Calls Google Ads Scam

One of the most amusing things is to read forum comments.

So, I came across this gem the other day:

“How much of a scam are Google Ads???”

In the massive post, the business owner goes on and says that he spent thousands of dollars on Google Ads getting 1 single lead.

Now it’s fair to say what happened to him ain’t good.

The last thing you need to happen to you as a business owner is to lose cash.

But in that wall of text you can tell that they aren’t an advanced marketer let alone an advanced Google Ads Manager.

He claims that the time the majority of prospects was bots as they only spend on their website 4 seconds.

That’s a pretty bold statement to make.

Can it be bots? Certainly, but there must be more things than bot clicks.

Does your website load fast? If not, go find a website to check the speed and learn how to fix it.

Does your website has social proof? Testimonials? It automatically makes it a more persuasive site.

Does the copy speak directly to the prospects’ main problem? If not, go do your research and rewrite it.

The list goes on. We could talk about the design, hero section even the policy page.

Let’s look at another thing that led their campaign to disaster:

Google recommendations.

They, much like may noobs, followed Google recommendations and went for Broad Match keywords.

Now Broad Match keywords is a tricky topic if I’m honest with you.

Many managers claim it’s the way to go nowadays as it gets signals from the user behaviour and serves your Ads to the right people.

I can’t argue with that, but you gotta know how to set a campaign with Broad Match keywords (you need the right negative keywords to direct the traffic).

If you don’t know how to go about it, and I’m convinced this dude didn’t know much about, you end up getting all kinds of different searches, irrelevant in most cases.

Bottom line, if you don’t know how to run Google Ads but plan to spend thousands on it, it’s better to hire a specialist with proven experience.

Yes it’s going to cost you more, but you’ll have peace of mind that an expert uses your cash to turn into more cash.

But it’s not wrong to have a basic knowledge of the subject.
