Catching AI Stealing Your Pimento Sandwich

I must confess…

The situation isn’t as bad as it used to be.

Back in 2022 when ChatGPT emerged everyone went bonkers. Ai this, ai that… I remember that back then I was living in Cyprus and I used to go to work in a co-working space (to experience what’s all this fuss about digital nomad) and I could overhear people talk about it as if they discovered fire.

Things got even more more bonkers online. Users on Twitter and Linkedin would go like:

“Ai will steal our Pimento sandwich, it’s just a matter of time.”

I was curious to see how much of this is true and how things would unravel the coming months.

I was curious to see if all the prophesies of ‘copywriting, media buying, graphic designers and the list goes on’ will no longer exist and completely be replaced by the Ai Tsunami.

The reality is, it’s November 2024 and there still copywriters.

There are still media buyers (I am one).

There are still graphic designers.

I know…

Some claim:

Yes, but it’s still the start of it. Give it another 5 years.

I can give it 60 years, pretty much the time calculators were invented and mathematicians were protesting against it as they were afraid of their jobs.

Now, I’m not saying Ai is totally crup and it’s just hype and the next new trend or whatever.

Imo it’s a tool a graphic designer needs to create a rough draft for them.

The same goes with copywriters and Google Ads Managers, Ai is tool that can turn tedious tasks into short tasks and saves you time.

I see this with Google Ads all the time. Automation & Ai in Google Ads is cool, the most typical example is the automated bid strategies that read your data and the ads to users whose behaviour matches your services/products.

Which is cool, you don’t need to do this work manually, but you gotta know when to use it and how to use it.

Bottom line, I believe I and the rest of media buyers will still have a job in the next years facing client requests like:

I searched for my ads but didn’t manage to find them. Why is that?

That’s the cool stuff of this profession after all.
