Brand words included or negative?

Came across this question the other day:

”””

Need your opinion based on your experience. Should I include the brand name when I am trying to acquire new customers ? Or actually add them as negative words. I am helping my wife solo home business acquire customers. When I review performance , got lots of clicks searching her brand and she is the only one selling out there. No other website sell her stuff. Thanks

My answer:

How about your organic results? Do you rank high when clicking your brand name? If you rank high and there aren’t any competitors on the first page I would exclude your brand name (added as negative keyword).

If you pay for the brand clicks, it’s like you pay for clicks you would have gotten anyway.

It’s better to save this money and spend it on other Search Terms.

It’s wise to have a basic Google ads understanding.

Here’s why:

Many agencies present these kinda clicks as winning-business in their report.

The reality is, these are vanity metrics and a serious businessman should
hear the truth about their campaigns.

It’s your maney at the end of the day and the last thing you need is a beautiful-looking monthly report without any actual results for your business.

In the book Obvious Adams, which all marketers, ads managers and entrepreneurs should read imo there’s line that’s stuck my mind:

Too much advertising and not enough selling.

The sole purpose of advertising is generating sales.

If your ads don’t generate any or you’re on loss, you better stop your ads and find a different method to promote your business.

But if Google ads is a critical aspect of your marketing I suggest you stay on top of it.

The best I can think of is to subscribe to my daily Email Newsletter.
